It is hard to find someone who works in our industry who hasn't heard the name Jewel DeNyle. Jewel has been making adult films since 1998Jewel DeNyle when her first movie, Electric Sex, was released. She brought home AVN's "Performer of the Year" in 2001, a year after making her directorial debut. And that isn't even half of her career. Jewel was a contract star for New Sensations and even helped found xxx giant, Platinum X. She stayed there until Platinum X and Red Light District decided to join forces. At that point, Jewel thought it best to go her own way and star her newest successful venture, Platinum Jewel.
With all of this success, needless to say, I was a little intimidated dialing that number. She answered the phone with an air of confidence that only a 10-year veteran can show. We made a little small talk about how much each of us hated dealing with the holiday season and quickly moved on to the point of the whole conversation.
After two days of research on a career stretching over a decade, my first question was simple. I wanted to know the most memorable moments, both good and bad. She said winning "Performer of the Year" was the most memorable moment, but that she also had a lot of other good memories that spanned her whole career.
To avoid a mile long interview about the past, I wanted to move on up to the present and take a look at what she is doing now. She talked about her recent return to the acting side of the camera. "I hadn't been in front of the camera in over four years, and the only reason I did it was because I got Shelly Martinez, who is a professional wrestler under contract with TNA, to agree to do it. If I was gonna come back and do something, it was going to be something worth while. Somebody of celebrity status who was gonna make an impact for my new company." She told me that being back in front of the camera was like riding a bike. "It felt like I never left."
Shelly will be signing with Jewel at this week's AEE in Vegas.
Jewel DeNyleThe film starring the famous female wrestler has been titled The Notorious Jewel DeNyle and Shelly Martinez, and is set to release this month. Jewel seemed to perk up and get really excited when I asked her what we should expect. "It's a fetish type movie, something I have never done before," she said. "So it was really, really interesting and really fun. It was actually one of the more fun things that I have ever done in the business. It was all from my imagination. It was a sort of a Bettie Page type parody that I always wanted to do, and just never had the chance to do it."
Jewel said she is undecided about starring in any other movies after this one. She said she doesn't have any plans right now, but that doesn't mean she wouldn't do one if someone like Stormy Daniels were up for it. "Somebody that I never worked with before that I want to work with...she [Stormy] is definitely number one on my list for that," Jewel said.
Platinum Jewel is doing well. Jewel credits this to the team that she works with. She is proud of her company, from the people in sales and the distributors to her relationship with Paul from Sinsation Pictures. She went on to say, "I think when you have good chemistry and you put out good product and you have my name behind it, it's pretty much a win/win situation."
I remembered seeing her in Pauly Shore's independent movie Pauly Shore is Dead, and I had to ask her about that experience before I let her off the phone. She said she couldn't knock it because it was one of the most fun things that she had ever done, but made sure to let me know how she felt about Hollywood. "I have never been one of those girls to seek out the mainstream thing, and that is where Hollywood gets confused, because they think that people get into porn because they didn't make it in mainstream, and I was the opposite. I got into porn because I could give two shits about mainstream."
That is Jewel. Confident. Strong. Beautiful. You can tell that Jewel DeNyle loves what she does and wouldn't change it for the world. There are no regrets, only success, and with the fan base that she has, those great achievements will soon be overshadowed by future endeavors.
